We’re still in 2016, aren’t we?
Let’s just say I deleted LIBW version 1.0 and 2.0, so hopefully 3.0 can make a better go of it because man this year been hell in every sense of the word.
EXCEPT FOR BOOKS.
I read 104 books in 2016.
My goal for this year was 100, so woohoo! Success!
Of those 104 books:
101 were fiction and 3 were nonfiction. Which really doesn’t surprise me, but I think I might switch that up a bit in 2017. There’s a few nonfiction books I’m itching to get my hands on.
88 were by women and 16 were by men, but only 9 were by PoC and/or known/out LGBTQUIAP+. That’s absolutely something I need to work on in the new year – reading more #ownvoices books.
4 were poetry, 33 were YA, 29 were romance, 11 were middle grade, 4 were children’s books, 1 was a self-help book, 21 were general fiction, and 1 was SFF.

My reading goals for 2017 include more nonfiction and #ownvoices books as previously stated, but I’d also like to read more poetry. This was the first year I really gave it a chance and I found some really lovely books among them – Tyler Knott Gregson, Rupi Kaur, and Nikita Gill to name a few. Since this is the first year I set such a lofty reading goal, I think I’m going to aim for 75 in 2017 to give myself a bit of a break. Though if I manage to do another 100, I won’t complain.
I’d also like to finish one of the multiple books I’m writing. Two, if I’m really really lucky and manage to focus enough to get it done.
2016 has definitely been an eye opener for many, me especially. It’s time to start reaching for those dreams because tomorrow is not guaranteed.
